On April 12th, RTL-TVI interviewed Approach for a special «Tout s’explique», dedicated to cyber security and sensitive data.
During the interview, we demonstrated how easily a third-party application can access sensitive data stored on a smartphone. This issue often stems from users, particularly children and teenagers, carelessly installing apps without reviewing the permissions requested. Many apps exploit this behaviour by requesting far more permissions than necessary for their legitimate purposes.
For example, even a basic flashlight app may request access to data it doesn’t need, illustrating the extent of the problem. This issue becomes more concerning as smartphones increasingly serve as small computers, storing vast amounts of personal and sensitive information.

At Approach, we use rogue mobile apps during phishing campaigns to show how attackers can exploit these vulnerabilities. Through these demonstrations, we highlight how sensitive data can be stolen or corporate networks can be compromised by infiltrating mobile devices.
Our goal is to raise awareness of these risks and educate users on the importance of scrutinising app permissions. By understanding these threats, individuals and organisations can take proactive measures to safeguard their sensitive data and strengthen their overall security posture.
